Our club meetings have been held at the Sofitel Hangzhou Westlake since the club’s Charter in June 2016. Since that time, successive Hotel Managers and staff have supported our club’s activities in a professional and considerate manner, allowing the club to flourish to deliver more Service Projects

Purpose of the Visit
The Rotary Club of Hangzhou was honored to welcome Special Representative Ian and Assistant Governor Tiziana for an official club visit
The purpose of the visit was to strengthen ties between the district leadership and the club, review current activities, and celebrate the induction of new and honorary members
Their visit reaffirmed the district’s commitment to encouraging active participation, leadership, and fellowship among all clubs

Meeting Overview
The meeting began with a warm greeting from the Club President (Alex Boshell), who expressed gratitude for the district’s guidance and the steady growth of Rotary in the region
Both SR Ian and AG Tiziana addressed members with words of encouragement, commending the club’s continued enthusiasm, collaborative spirit, and dedication to Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self
They reminded members of the importance of fellowship, bilingual communication, and teamwork — essential values that keep Rotary clubs connected across cultures and communities
Distinguished Guest Frank Yih also shared thoughtful remarks, congratulating the Hangzhou Club on its strong performance and engagement. His presence added warmth and significance to the evening, reflecting his ongoing support for the club and the district’s initiatives

Focus Area of the Month: Eradication of Polio
🔹This month’s Rotary focus is Polio Eradication
🔹All donations collected this month will go directly to the Rotary Foundation’s End Polio Now campaign
🔹Members are encouraged to contribute and help Rotary achieve its mission to make polio a disease of the past
🔹Venezuelan artist Lusymar Blanco will donate some of the sales of her artwork to the fight against polio. The club will assist in finding buyers

Today, Saturday, September 13th, 2025, our club hosted a vibrant and memorable September meeting at Sofitel Hangzhou West Lake

We were honored to welcome Madam Grace Tsang, District Friendship Exchange Chair (2023–2026) of District 5040 and Past President of the Rotary Club of Richmond Sunset. Madam Tsang shared highlights from the 2025 Rotary International Convention in Calgary, along with two inspiring videos from the winners of District 5040’s Interact Video Competition – created by the Interact Clubs of Hugh Boyd Secondary School and Steveston-London Secondary School

Ying presented an update to our September ‘Educational Support’ project. The Club Board decided to donate club funds to pay the High School tuition fees of a female student, living in Guizhou Province, who has endured a number challenges in her short life

As always, the meeting concluded with our traditional buffet lunch at Sofitel, offering time to relax, connect, and celebrate our growing Rotary family

We had an excellent meeting which was attended by all members, currently located in China, plus 3 visitors!

As we entered the B1 Boardroom we saw that President Alex had laid out on the table all the new club Tshirts which have been very generously donated to us by a club sponsor. All members chose their preferred size

The meeting was kicked off by President Alex, ringing the bell at exactly 11:00 and then leading us through the Rotary Four-Way Test. Alex then reminded everyone to be respectful to one another; we don’t always have to agree with the person we are talking with, but we should respect their right to express their own opinions

We then worked through a packed agenda with presentations from Secretary Cindy on Project Planning, Treasurer Tim & Ying on the completion of the UNHCR Maternal & Child Health project, financial Board Decisions Report by Treasurer Tim and a brief walk-through of our digital presence by Tim, Alex and Maria
